Introduction for the post
As we’re fans of old dos games, we will be posting the “best” of the dos games download links after now. Dont say “what will i do with these games in 2009′ because there are some old games that you may never get the same fun from an another newage game. Only great graphics is not enough. Gameplay is very important too and we really know some games that will make you hours or days with it. (Maybe months) . So after now, in the games category, the coolest dos games will be added.
But, how will you play these games?
It doesnt matter what platform you have, theres always a version of DosBox for you. DosBox is a software that makes the old Dos Games run on your system. It has a detailed tutorial but anyway, we will add a summary tutorial here either. Read More for the rest…
You download the program, install it (i suggest you to install it to directly on C:\ drive. Like C:\DosBox
You create a directory named OldGames. It will be like C:\OldGames – Now we have DosBox installation on C:\DosBox and an OldGames directory on C:\OldGames
In our example, lets try to run the game “Test Drive”. First you download the game (ofcourse) Then move the game into the OldGames directory.
The gamefiles will be located here C:\OldGames\TestDrive
Everything is ready, how will i run the game?
Now you have to mount the directory from the program. Open DosBox then type the codes below
Z:\>MOUNT C C:\OLDGAMES Drive C mounted as local directory C:\OldGames\ After the MOUNT command, we entered the name of the new drive 'C' and which directory will be mounted to that drive 'C:\OldGames'
Now in DosBox, you have a directory named ‘C’ and it includes the C:\OldGames directory (mounted)
Lets Play The Game
Now in DosBox, type C: and press enter, now you are on C:\ drive (Emulated with DosBox – Not real c)
Type cd OldGames and enter the OldGames directory then enter the game directory with cd TestDrive
Things will be like that
Z:\>C: C:\>C:\>CD TestDrive C:\TestDrive> C:\TestDrive>TDCGA.EXE
Please note that many games have an executable file (exe) or a bat / com file to start. So when you are in a dos game directory, type dir *.exe to search for exe files, then type the exe file to start the game..
